Licensing in Age of Learning’s platform is managed by Assigning and Distributing product licenses. Here's what each term means, who it's for, and what actions are required.
Assigning Licenses
Assigning a license means giving a specific student access to a specific product, such as My Math Academy, My Reading Academy, or My Reading Academy Español.
New for Back to School 2025: The default for new districts is that students are automatically licensed when they are added through Clever, ClassLink, SFTP, CSV uploads, or manual additions in the Educator Center. Licenses are synced to rostered students overnight so they will be ready. Note: Some organizations do not have automatic licensing activated.
👧 Students
-
Students are the only users who receive assigned licenses.
-
A separate license is required for each product. For example, assigning a student a license for My Math Academy does not give them access to My Reading Academy.
-
If a student doesn’t have a valid (non-expired) license assigned to them, their login will fail and they won’t be able to access the program.
👩🏫 Teachers
-
Teachers do not receive licenses but can access programs like My Math Academy or My Reading Academy if at least one student in their class has a license.
-
Teachers can assign licenses to their students if an Administrator has distributed licenses to them.
👩💼 Administrators
-
Admins do not receive product licenses and cannot access the student-facing programs.
-
Admins access the Educator Center only. If an Admin tries to open a student-facing app, they will receive a login error.
-
Admins can assign licenses to students directly or distribute licenses to Teachers or other Admins (see below).

Distributing Licenses
Distributing a license means transferring unassigned licenses to other Admins or Teachers so they can help assign them to students.
🔁 Distribution Behavior
-
Distributing does not assign the license to a student.
-
The recipient (Admin or Teacher) must still go to the Educator Center and assign the license to specific students.
-
Example: If an Admin distributes 20 licenses to a Teacher, that Teacher must assign those licenses before any students can log in.
⛔ Redistribution Limits
-
Only top-level Administrators (usually at the district level) can distribute licenses.
-
Once a license is distributed to a Teacher or School Admin, that person cannot redistribute it further.
