For Back-to-School 2025, we're significantly expanding how our programs support students and families who speak a language other than English at home. Here's a summary of our enhanced MLL support followed by steps to change the language settings for a student in the Educator Center. See How Language Settings Affect Program Content to learn what does and does not change in our programs.

Primary Language Settings for Students
Teachers and admins can now assign a primary language for each student from a list of 50+ supported languages. Currently, this can be done manually in the Educator Center or through a CSV roster upload. If your class was rostered with tools like Clever or ClassLink, Enhanced MLL support will be available in the near future. This primary language setting helps personalize student-facing support and affects caregiver communications, including home access emails.
My Reading Academy – New Language Features
MRA now includes multilingual supports for the first time:
-
Keyword glossary toggle: Students can tap highlighted academic vocabulary to see definitions in their home language
-
“How to Play” directions: Audio instructions available in 50+ languages
-
Closed captioning in English for video content
These supports help English learners better access instructional content—without translating the core reading instruction—preserving alignment to the Science of Reading.
My Math Academy – Expanded Language Features
MMA now includes even more support for MLLs:
-
Keyword glossary toggle for core math vocabulary
-
Game instructions and “How to Play” audio in 50+ languages
-
Closed captioning in English
These features help make math instruction more accessible while preserving the integrity of the learning experience.
Family Communications in Multiple Languages
When a primary language is set for a student, home access invitations and caregiver emails are automatically sent in that language (when supported), making it easier for families to get started and stay engaged.

Spanish Literacy
Schools that would like to be able to offer students a Spanish literacy program designed to help accelerate Spanish reading fluency may wish to add licenses for our My Reading Academy Español program.
Changing Student Language Settings
If your organization allows manual roster updates, you can easily change language settings in the Educator Center. (Manual updates of language settings should now be allowed even if your org rosters with ClassLink or Clever, but if manual changes fail, you may need to use your SSO to update these settings.)
Simply follow these steps to manually change student language settings:
- Log in to your Educator Center account.
- Click Accounts at the top of your screen, then select Manage and Students from the drop-down menu.
- On the Active Students page, click the name of the Student.
- On the Student Info pop-up window, click on the Language drop-down and select the language desired (there are more than 50 choices).
- Scroll down and click the blue Save button.
- Repeat steps 5 - 7 if you need to change the language settings for additional students. At this time, language settings must be changed one student at a time in the Educator Center. Bulk editing is not yet supported.
