New for the 2025-26 school year, our Readiness Experience introduces young children to the concepts, skills, and language that prepare them for formal instruction in math and reading.
Readiness Overview
The Readiness path is used for students who are not yet ready for the full curriculum in My Math Academy (MMA) or My Reading Academy (MRA).
Students in Readiness engage with songs, stories, and interactive games that focus on core Pre-K skills like:
Letter and sound awareness
Counting and number sense
Recognizing patterns and shapes
Building comfort with digital tools and feedback
🎯 The goal of the Readiness path is to build confidence and fluency with early learning concepts before transitioning students to the full mastery-based curriculum. Students will be given regular opportunities to test out of the Readiness path.
How Do Students Enter the Readiness Experience?
When Pre-K or TK students begin using My Math Academy or My Reading Academy, they are first given a Readiness Check.
Based on the results of this check:
Students who pass begin in the regular Knowledge Mapping Mode (Placement), starting at the Pre-K level.
Students who do not pass begin in the Readiness Experience.
No teacher action is required—placement is automatic based on student performance in the Readiness Check.
How Do I Know If a Student Is Placed in Readiness?
In the Progress Dashboard, look at the Placement Status column.
If a student is in Readiness, you’ll see:
📍 See Readiness Overview
Clicking this link will open a summary of what the student is working on in the Readiness path.
What’s in the Readiness Overview?
The Readiness Overview provides a list of the early learning concepts a student is working on. The content varies depending on the program:
My Reading Academy:
Identifying uppercase and lowercase letters
Recognizing beginning sounds in words
Listening to rhyming songs and alliterative stories
Practicing letter tracing and sound matching
Engaging with read-alouds to build vocabulary and comprehension habits
My Math Academy:
Counting forward and backward through songs
Using 1:1 correspondence to count objects
Subitizing (the ability to instantly recognize the quantity of a small set of objects without counting) and comparing small groups of items
Identifying and extending A-B-A-B patterns
Exploring quantities with visual and auditory support
These overviews give teachers a clear view of the foundational experiences students are engaged in before they begin working through formal skill progressions in the Knowledge Map.
What Happens After Readiness?
Students will be given ongoing opportunities to test out of the Readiness pathway after:
Completing 5 activities
Completing 10 activities
Completing 15 activities
Once a student completes all Readiness content:
They automatically transition into the standard Knowledge Mapping Mode (Placement)
They begin working through skill-based mastery activities at the Pre-K level
There is no need to manually move students out of Readiness—this transition is handled automatically by the program.
Can I Assign Readiness Content to a Student?
Yes. While the Readiness experience is automatically assigned to students who do not pass the Readiness Check when they first begin using the program, teachers can assign Readiness activities in the same way they assign other activities.
If you believe a student was placed incorrectly or needs additional early support, reach out to your administrator or support contact for guidance.
Summary
Who enters Readiness?
Pre-K and TK students who do not pass the initial Readiness Check.
How is it shown in reports?
“See Readiness Overview” will appear in the Placement Status column on the Progress Dashboard.
What’s in the Readiness Overview?
A description of the early learning skills and concepts the student is engaging with.
Do students exit Readiness automatically?
Yes. Once they test out or complete the full Readiness path, they are automatically transitioned into the Knowledge Map.
Can teachers assign Readiness content?
Yes. Readiness content is now assignable the same way other activities are, through the Assign Skills tool.
