The Placement Test determines each student’s best starting point in My Math Academy or My Reading Academy. It’s adaptive (not fixed-length), so students may finish at different times. The day after they finish Placement and return to the program hub, a students' Placement Reports should be made available from the Progress Dashboard.
This guide shows you where to open reports, what each status means, why reports may not appear immediately, and when a reset is appropriate.
How to access Placement Reports
Click the Dashboards menu in the Educator Center.
Select Progress.
Scroll to the Skills Progress Status table.
In the Placement Status column, if available, click See Placement Report next to a student’s name.
Notes
The report link appears in the Placement Status column. Student names are not hyperlinks.
If you see Completed (no link), the student finished the test but the report isn’t available yet—see “When will the report be ready?” below.
Placement Statuses (on the Progress dashboard)
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Not Started | Student hasn’t begun placement. | Have the student log in to the program; placement starts automatically. |
| In Progress | Student began but hasn’t completed enough items yet. | Let the student continue working; placement resumes automatically. |
| Completed | Student finished placement, but the report isn’t available yet. | Make sure the student returned to the program hub, then wait for the nightly refresh (details below). |
| See Placement Report | Placement is finished and processed; report is ready. | Click the link to open the report. |
| See Readiness Overview | (If enabled) Readiness is in use for this student. | Click to view the Readiness overview. |
When will the report be ready?
Placement reports are not immediate, not same-day. Two conditions must be met:
Finish + return to hub
After completing placement, the student must exit back to the program hub (home screen). This finalizes the session.Nightly data refresh
Progress data—including placement—updates once every 24 hours, during the nightly refresh (“Updated nightly at 12:00 a.m. PT” appears at the top of the Progress dashboard).
Result: If a student finishes today and returns to the hub, you’ll see See Placement Report the next day after the refresh.
Why might a report not be available yet?
Student hasn’t completed enough placement items. Status will remain In Progress.
Student finished but didn’t return to the hub. You’ll see Completed until they do and the nightly refresh runs.
Nightly refresh hasn’t run yet. You’ll see Completed today; See Placement Report will appear after the overnight update.
Interrupted session (device closed/restarted, refresh/reload, connectivity drop). Have the student log back in and continue; the system will resume.
Error you might see (after clicking a report link)
If you click See Placement Report and instead see:
Error: No placement by domain data found for student
That means the report could not be retrieved—most often due to an interrupted session or because the student hadn’t fully finalized/returned to hub before the last refresh.
What to do
Have the student log in and continue; ensure they fully return to the hub.
Check again after the next nightly refresh.
If the error persists for more than one day, contact support to reset placement.
Understanding the results (and avoiding false alarms)
Most students are placed within the curriculum for their rostered grade level. Some may be placed above or below based on their performance during testing.
The maximum that students are placed above or below grade level after testing is 2 grades.
Our programs prioritizes a student’s current grade level before moving them ahead.
Students can place into different grade levels across domains based on the skills they demonstrate during placement.
-
During learning, students may receive activities up to 1 grade level lower or higher than their placement level.
This is intentional and part of how the program personalizes instruction.
Seeing varying levels of activities does not mean placement is wrong.
Can I reset a student’s placement?
Usually no. The system self-corrects as students work.
Consider a reset only if:
The student used the wrong account,
The student received help during placement, or
The student was assigned the wrong grade.
There was an error preventing the Placement Report that was not resolved.
⚠️ A reset clears all placement and learning progress for that student.
How to request a placement reset:
Click here to submit a support ticket requesting that we reset an invalid test.
What we will need you to provide:
- School name
- Student name
- Teacher email
- Specific reason for the reset request
What to expect: Placement Tests can typically be reset on the same day they are requested or early the following business day. Our Customer Care team will send an email confirmation once the test has been reset for the student.
Issues at a glance
Suspected misplacement: Students may be places on different grade levels across domains. They may see activities up to 2 grade levels lower or higher (e.g., a 1st grader assigned Pre-K in one domain, 3rd in another). This is intentional and part of what makes our programs unique.
No report across multiple students: Check connectivity and that students are returning to the hub; wait for the nightly refresh.
Teacher can’t find a report link: Verify you’re on Dashboards → Progress, scroll to Skills Progress Status, and look in the Placement Status column.
Student “stuck” In Progress: Have them continue working uninterrupted; the system resumes where they left off.
Start of a new school term
When the school term is reset, all prior data (including placement) is cleared.
Students will complete placement again at the start of the new term.
