If you or your students ever see a message like “Your connection is not private”, “NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID”, or a similar security warning when trying to access My Math Academy, My Reading Academy, or My Reading Academy Español, here’s what you need to know.
What This Message Means
This error is not coming from our programs, but from the web browser or network you’re using. It typically appears when the browser can’t verify that the connection to the website is secure. This is most often due to:
A problem with the school’s network security filter
A proxy or firewall intercepting secure traffic
The date and time being incorrect on the student’s device
Issues with the browser’s certificate cache
What You Can Try
To quickly troubleshoot the issue:
1. Try a different browser
Switch to a different supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge) to rule out browser-specific problems.
2. Check the device’s date and time
Make sure the device’s date, time, and time zone are correct. An incorrect clock can cause security certificates to be rejected.
3. Clear browser cache and restart the browser
Sometimes stored data can cause conflicts:
Clear the browser cache
Fully close and reopen the browser (not just the tab)
4. Toggle Wi-Fi and check browser tabs
Turn the device’s Wi-Fi off and back on again
Make sure the program isn’t open in more than one browser tab or window — this can cause unexpected loading or login issues
5. Try a different network
If possible, connect the device to a different network (such as a mobile hotspot). If the program loads there, the issue is likely with the school’s network filter or firewall.
6. Restart the device
Especially on shared devices or Chromebooks, a full restart can help clear background issues that interfere with secure connections.
Helpful Information to Note
If the steps above don’t resolve the issue, you may be asked to share the following details with your school’s IT team or our support team:
How are students launching the program?
Are they using a portal like Clever or ClassLink, or going directly to the login page? When does the error appear?
Does it show up before students select their class and name, or after?
This context helps narrow down whether the issue is happening at the point of login, during SSO handoff, or when the program content tries to load.
What Your IT Team Can Check
If the issue continues, your school or district’s IT team may need to investigate. Please ask them to:
Check whether a filtering or firewall system is intercepting HTTPS traffic and replacing security certificates
Look for recent updates to network filtering or proxy settings
Confirm that the following domains are fully whitelisted:
*.mymathacademy.com
*.myreadingacademy.com
*.abcmouse.com
*.unity3d.com
*.adjust.com
*.crashlytics.com
*.fabric.io
These are required for core features of My Math Academy, My Reading Academy, and My Reading Academy Español to function properly.
