The Hub is the main activity screen students see after signing into My Math Academy (MMA) or My Reading Academy (MRA).
It gives each child simple, motivating activity choices while ensuring that every activity supports their individual learning path or any skills assigned by their teacher.
This article explains what teachers and students can expect to see in the Hub and answers common questions about activity tiles, icons, and blue dots.
What the Hub Shows
When students log in, they usually see:
Up to three activity tiles across the top of the screen
A progress bar with trophy icon to visualize progress towards their daily learning goal
A friendly guide character who introduces the activities
Each tile represents a next-step activity selected by the program’s adaptive system or by teacher assignment.
Students can select any of the available tiles—every option is a developmentally appropriate next step in their personalized learning path.
Why the Hub Sometimes Shows Only Two Tiles
Most of the time, the Hub displays three activity tiles.
However, it may temporarily show only two tiles when:
The system is generating a new recommendation after a recent activity,
A teacher-assigned skill is replacing one of the adaptive activities, or
The student is early in the program and has a smaller set of unlocked activities.
Both two- and three-tile views are normal and don’t affect learning progress.
When the Progress Bar or Trophy Doesn’t Appear
The progress bar (or trophy icon) shows a student’s daily learning goal and fills as they play.
It may not appear immediately in every session. This is expected when:
The Hub loads before the full session initializes,
The network connection is slow, or
The student opens the Hub but hasn’t yet begun playing an activity.
Once the student starts an activity or logs in again later, the progress bar will reappear and update normally.
How the Hub Updates
When students complete an activity, the Hub automatically refreshes with new options.
Tiles may update instantly or after the next login, depending on network speed and program state.
There are no visible markers (such as colored dots) showing which activities are new or repeated — every tile on the Hub represents work the student hasn’t yet mastered at their current level.
Each time the Hub refreshes, all visible tiles are new recommendations or assigned activities, even if the icons look familiar.
Why Students Might See the Same Icon More Than Once
You may notice what look like duplicate activity tiles on the Hub—such as several ABC Track Tracer icons.
This is normal and expected.
Why it happens
Many activities have multiple versions or levels that use the same image.
For example, ABC Track Tracer has one version for each letter of the alphabet.
A counting game may reappear with higher number ranges or new challenges.
The program may also repeat activity types when a student needs additional practice for mastery.
Teacher assignments sometimes use the same icons as adaptive activities.
Even if the icons look identical, each tile represents a different skill objective or level.
Assigned Skills and the Hub
When a teacher assigns specific skills in Educator Center:
One Hub tile is reserved for assigned content.
If there are teacher-assigned skills, students will see a special icon (a Teacher holding a pointer, shown in the following screenshot) on the activity tile on the right side of the screen.
If multiple skills are assigned, they appear one at a time in that tile.
After a student finishes the first assignment, the next one automatically replaces it.
The other tiles continue to show adaptive activities based on the student’s learning progress.
This ensures that assignments are completed in sequence without overwhelming the student.
Key Takeaways for Teachers
| Feature | What It Means | What to Tell Students |
|---|---|---|
| Tiles | Up to three activities at a time (occasionally two while the program updates) | “All the tiles you see are new—pick any one to start!” |
| Repeated Icons | Represent multiple levels or versions of the same game | “You might see the same picture again—it’s a new challenge.” |
| Progress Bar / Trophy | Appears once a session begins and fills as students play | “Your trophy will show your goal once you start playing.” |
| Assigned Tile | Holds teacher-assigned content, one skill at a time | “Finish your assigned game first; a new one will appear afterward.” |
FAQ
Q: Can students replay favorite activities?
No. The Hub always displays the next uncompleted, recommended activity. Once an activity is mastered, it’s replaced automatically with a new recommendation. What may look like repeated activities are different versions (e.g., focusing on different letters) or levels of the activity to demonstrate greater mastery.
Q: Why don’t I see all assigned skills at once?
Assignments appear one at a time to help students focus and to continue giving them choices of regular program-recommended activities. The next assigned activity appears automatically after the previous one is completed.
Q: Why does a student’s Hub look different from another’s?
Hubs are personalized. Differences in number of tiles, icons, or progress bar visibility are normal and depend on each student’s progress and network conditions.
In Summary
The Hub is designed to keep students engaged, independent, and progressing.
Every tile represents new, uncompleted work—whether it’s adaptive or teacher-assigned.
Variations like missing progress bars, repeated icons, or temporary two-tile layouts are normal parts of how the adaptive system updates in real time.
Encourage students to:
Play any available tile,
Reach their 15-minute goal, and
Celebrate their daily progress!
