New for Back to School 2025: The default for new districts is that students are automatically licensed when they are added through Clever, ClassLink, SFTP, CSV uploads, or manual additions in the Educator Center. Licenses are synced to rostered students overnight so they will be ready.
This change reduces manual work and ensures students can begin using My Math Academy, My Reading Academy, or My Reading Academy Español the very next day without extra steps.
Please note: Not all organizations have auto-licensing set up for multiple reasons. For example, they may only have 100 MMA licenses but have 400 MRA licenses. In this case we would be able to auto-license the larger number of MRA licenses, but NOT the smaller number MMA licenses.
Here’s what you need to know:
What Does “Automatically Licensed” Mean?
A student is automatically licensed during our nightly system syncs after they are added to your account using one of the supported rostering systems. This means:
No extra step is needed to assign them a license
They can log in and begin using their assigned product(s) the very next day
Supported Rostering Methods That Auto-License
All supported rostering methods auto-license students overnight. When students are rostered durning the school day, they are automatically licensed during our system's overnight sync. For districts that run syncs throughout the day, students would NOT get licensed at that time and would need to wait for our nightly sync to license all students.
Clever sync
✅ Automatically licensed
Standard sync process
ClassLink sync
✅ Automatically licensed
Standard sync process
SFTP upload
✅ Automatically licensed
Admin-managed, often used for larger districts
CSV upload via Educator Center
✅ Automatically licensed
Manual rostering via Educator Center
✅ Automatically licensed*
*Manually added students will get licensed after the nightly sync, so admins will have to wait until the next day for students who they manually add to the roster to be licensed. If you manually add students to the roster, you may want to also manually add their licenses at the same time (licenses assigned manually may take up to 4 hours to be activated for students).
Why Does This Matter?
Automatic licensing delivers real benefits to educators:
Students can access the product as soon as they’re rostered
You don’t need to manage license counts manually (as long as you’re within your total license allocation)
Onboarding is smoother for students, teachers, and admins
Need to Check if a Student is Licensed?
You can:
Open the Licensing section in the Educator Center
Search by student name
-
Confirm their license status for each product (MMA, MRA, or MRAE)

Still Have Questions?
If you're unsure whether a student is licensed or if you need help with a large roster update, contact your Customer Success Manager or submit a support ticket.
Organizations will be notified during their onboarding process of the auto-licesning feature.
