We are actively investigating and making some progress addressing a loading issue affecting students using iPads with the latest iOS and iPadOS update (18.4) installed.
-
Description: Students using iPads running the latest iPadOS 18.4 update have started to experience a loading issues on all programs: My Math Academy, My Reading Academy, and My Reading Academy Español. When students tap the play button for an activity, the activity doesn’t respond as it should and then fails to load, showing this error message: "A problem repeatedly occurred on 'https://www.myreadingacademy.com/web/mra/#/activity'" (the URL displayed will be different for each program). Some of our activities are experiencing near 100% crash rates on iPad 7th, 8th, and 9th generation devices, with a small percentage of crashing observed on the iPad 10.
-
Issue status: Significant progress with MRA.
After extensive communication with Apple, our developers have deployed a new My Reading Academy (MRA) build aimed at addressing the crashing issues introduced with the recent Apple iOS 18.4 update. Our latest MRA builds have been able to drastically reduce crash rates on all devices. We have seen a 60%-70% reduction on the iPad 7, a 70% - 80% reduction on iPads 8 & 9, and a 95% - 100% reduction on the iPad 10.
Some students may observe activities refreshing briefly when they are first accessed, but that is nothing to worry about as they are able to jump in and play and not have their adaptivity affected. In the rare case a crash does occur and an error screen appears, users can simply refresh the page to attempt to load the activity again rather than be completely blocked from gameplay.
Our developers are now focusing on a similar new build for My Math Academy (MMA) so that it is playable for these same users. We will then continue to investigate a comprehensive solution for the issues brought about by 18.4 iOS/iPadOS update as a whole.
- Recommendation: Until this program loading issue is resolved, if your students are using iPads with an earlier iPadOS, we recommend holding off on updating the devices to iPadOS 18.4. Until our next release to address the issues on MMA, we recommend that students affected by the 18.4 update focus on learning with MRA.
