The Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), a comprehensive educational framework, may be more commonly applied to reading, but using it effectively to deliver targeted, 3-tiered support in K-5 math is the key to building a strong foundation in mathematics to set young learners up for lasting success. And My Math Academy is the ideal classroom tool to help teachers deliver on that promise.

Tier 1: My Math Academy Builds a Strong Foundation
Tier 1 is the foundation of MTSS, with teachers providing high-quality, standards-based classroom-wide instruction and support for all students, often with the help of standards-aligned programs like My Math Academy that offer personalized feedback. My Math Academy’s continuous assessments, for example, identify exactly where a child needs reinforcement, helping teachers adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs. Research has found that with this approach, My Math Academy helped pre-K and kindergarten students more than double their math skills over just a few months.
Tier 2: Stepping Up Support to Fill Skills Gaps
Tier 2 interventions target students identified as having skill gaps and needing more support with small-group instruction. Adaptive assessments in My Math Academy allow teachers to pinpoint exactly where students needs extra practice, making interventions efficient and impactful. As students engage with the program, it dynamically adjusts their path within, after, and across learning activities. The Progress Dashboards in the Educator Center can also help teachers identify groups of students who need support on the same skills and standards and offer them group activities that target those skills and standards.

Tier 3: Providing Intensive, Individualized Help
At once the most critical and the most difficult to accommodate—without an adaptive program like My Math Academy—MTSS Tier 3 provides intensive, one-on-one instruction for those students who continue to struggle and need the greatest amount of support, even after extra Tier 2 interventions.
The program's in-game, adaptive placement activities start each student off by quickly identifying their current skill level and launching a unique Learning Pathway. As they use the program, our dynamic technology instantly recognizes when a student needs additional support, providing moment-to-moment, in-game scaffolding that includes audio, visuals, and modulation of the difficulty of the learning activity.
As was the case with Tier 2 for for small groups, our Educator Center Dashboards can help teachers identify individual students who need extra support and offer them offer additional, in-classroom learning activities based on that data.
